We kicked off summer vacation 'old school' this year by spending a few days at the beach. It's hard to believe it's been nearly a decade since Duke & I have been to Ocean City. It's amazing how little has changed in this town. Things are pretty much exactly the same.
We stayed right on the beach at the Hilton Suites on 28th Street. The room had a great veiw of the ocean, which means we had a great view of the sunrise. Which is a nice thing...unless you went to bed really late the night before you left for your trip, only to rise before dawn to catch your plane, and then couldn't sleep because you were so excited to get on the beach the next day. But kids don't care about these things. They were up with the surfers.
And fortunately, there were plenty of surfers to keep kiddos entertained until Mommy & Daddy mangaged to wipe the sand from their eyes.
We hit the beach as early as we could. The kids were thrilled that Scott & Josef (Cady) were able to join us. (And so was I, since Duke spent most of the time working.)
Jake & Lila were a little concerned when we were leaving home without our sand toys. But soon enough they learned that you don't need fancy molds & buckets to build a decent sand castle.
When we decided we'd had as much fun in the sand (and the very cold Atlantic) as we could have, we headed up to the pools. Yes, that's right, poolS. The Hilton has two great outdoor pools (and one indoor pool.) The "kids' pool" has a lazy river, a crazy whilrly pool and a couple of fantastic slides.
While Lila enjoyed sliding with an escort, Jake was happy to go solo.
One thing's for sure, we all had a blast on the slide.
But you know, sometimes kids just don't feel like being kids. Sometimes kids feel like bellying up to the bar in the "big kids' pool".
Mmm MMMmm! The mojitos, I mean the milkshakes at this place are yummy!
After we'd had as much fun in the sun as we could handle, it was off to the boardwalk for some games....
...and some junkfood! Then home to bed only to wake up and do it all over again.
And yes, of course we started the day with hot donuts from the Fractured Prune. Ahhh...just a typical day at the beach.
